Becoming a Member of Grand Avenue Club Thank you for your interest in the Grand Avenue Club----a community that works for its program participants and for Milwaukee. Our clubhouse is based on the idea that people who have experienced mental illness can contribute to the community they live in. If you are interested in learning more about the Grand Avenue Club, you or your case manager/therapist/doctor can call our Membership Area at 414-276-6474 ext. 26 to receive an information packet. Return the short response form enclosed in the information packet. We will then call you to arrange a tour. Tours are held every other Wednesday at 10am or 2pm. The tour takes about 1 hour. You will see how our clubhouse works, learn about the opportunities available at the clubhouse, and explore our clubhouse philosophy to see if this is the community that will meet your needs. Please bring your psychiatrist's name and /or DVR counselor's name and address with you. If you choose to participate in our program, we will need to contact your doctor to verify that you have a history of mental illness. The next step to membership is participating in a two week orientation. Orientation is held from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm Monday- Friday during 1st week and completion of 12 hours of participation in the clubhouse the second week of orientation. YOUR ATTENDANCE DURING ORIENTATION IS MANDATORY. During Orientation, you will learn a great deal about our clubhouse and work one day in each of our four units. Plus, you will meet and socialize with other club members in a natural setting. Together, we will discuss whether membership is right for you. Participation in orientation does not guarantee membership. Once orientation is completed, members may use the clubhouse as they choose. Grand Avenue Club is open 7-days a week, 365 days a year. The work-ordered day takes place Monday---Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. We encourage active participation in the work-ordered day. The Clubhouse is open two evenings a week--Monday and Wednesday -- for recreation. Grand Avenue Club is open on Saturdays and Sundays and most from 1-4 p.m. We are open all day on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Membership is free. Members choose how they use the Grand Avenue Club. We work, socialize, and learn at our own pace. Membership is voluntary as are all work opportunities. There is no compensation, rewards, no stars nor points to earn. We work at the club because we find it gives value and meaning to our lives. By working at the clubhouse members ready themselves for paid employment and full citizenship. We need our members to run Grand Avenue Club and many members find that they feel good after they have been active in a community that appreciates their interests, talents, and abilities.
