Perspectives on the Standards

 

Standard #33: Staff salaries are competitive with comparable positions in the mental health field.

 

We appreciate this Standard because it prevents excessive staff turnover and ensures fairness. If staff members are encouraged to stay with us long-term, it allows us to get to know one another and form stable friendships and working relationships. This Standard also implies that members are not the only people whose rights must be protected. As a final touch, this Standard creates institutional openness by bringing a staff concern to the attention of members. We members should be concerned with the working conditions of staff, just as they are concerned with our well-being. Clubhouses compete with other programs for competent, caring staff. If we pay well, we will attract quality staff.
