Perspectives on the Standards

Standard #32: The clubhouse develops and maintains its own budget, approved by the Board or Advisory Board prior to the beginning of the fiscal year and monitored routinely during the fiscal year.

This Standard emphasizes the autonomy of our clubhouses. Having control of our own budget means that our decision-making includes financial matters. We invite members to make decisions on every aspect of clubhouse life and we adhere to sound administrative practices in the process. The Standard implies that clubhouse colleagues should be involved.

"Money makes the world go around." Money is the key to the effective functioning of all clubhouses. This Standard speaks to the need for the clubhouse board to be aware of its resources throughout the year. Having control of financial matters is part of our adherence to sound administrative practices. The Board--which often includes members--is responsible for making sure that there is sufficient money to run the program, that the money is spent wisely, and serves the needs of the clubhouse and its members..
