20f: Transitional Employment placements are part-time and time-limited, generally 15 to 20 hours per week and from six to nine months in duration.

T.E.’s help us build up the ability to sustain a job. It must be remembered that T.E. is designed to help us build self-confidence, consistency, and good work habits. The built-in time limit to T.E.’s is important because for some of us this is the first time we have been employed in a while. As a result, work can be overwhelming. The time limit makes it easier to commit to work. It is also easier to agree to work a few hours a day rather than working fulltime.

This Standard also allows more members to become involved. A succession of T.E. placements is acceptable at the clubhouses, but once we get that far we have the choice whether or not to move on to independent employment. Working at a T.E. is not necessarily the final goal for any of us, and that is our reason why T.E.’s are time limited.
