Perspectives on the Standards
Standard #18: Members have the opportunity to participate in all the work of the clubhouse, including administration, research, intake and orientation, reach out, hiring, training and evaluation of staff, public relations, advocacy and evaluation of clubhouse effectiveness.
We love this Standard because it creates real equality between colleagues. All colleagues have the opportunity to become influential in the clubhouse community through this work. Our clubhouses have faith in the abilities of our colleagues, and our members—some of whom have never been given much responsibility or trust—rise to the challenge. By working as a team, we create our own opportunities for growth, and we discard stigma and prejudice at the front door.
